Positively charged particles that enter the field pick up negative charges until neutralized, which allows the force of gravity to take over and pull the particles out of the breathing space. Particles also tend to agglomerate (clump together), forming larger particles that remain on horizontal surfaces until vacuumed or wiped up as part of your normal cleaning activities.

There can be millions of particles in each cubic foot of unfiltered air. Up to 98% may be less than 1 micron in size and therefore small enough to get into the lungs and cause respiratory problems. Less advanced machines may stop larger particles greater than 1 micron in size, but not these smaller invisible pollutants that can be particularly harmful.
